U11's Ladybridge (CLJFL Stage 1)
For those of you old enough to remember Bob Dylan wrote “The times they are a changing”. For Ladybridge U11’s they certainly are. From 7 a-side to 11, Full rules, Offside, Big goals, and a New League where we don’t know them and they don’t know us!
The team is new, an amalgamation of Lions, Bulldogs and Lightning. There were several attempts at names; Lightning Bull-Lions, LightBull Lions, LionDog Lightning.
In the end simplification was best and we went for Ladybridge.
And so to the season. There were five games in Stage 1 In the South Section. The results were as follows Ladybridge Score First:-
Gillibrand Warriors 6-0 Away
Aspull Juniors 4-4 Away
Chorley St Greg's 17-2 Home
Euxton Villa 7-0 Home
Charnock Richard 5-2 Home
Four wins and one draw means we’ve finished top of Stage 1 South and qualified for the higher league at Stage 2 with 39 goals scored and 8 conceded.
There were many highlights but as someone who witnessed the joys and tribulations of Lightning last season there is one section of this year’s team which is worthy of special mention and that’s the defence.
With representation from Lightning, Bulldogs and Lions, they’ve already had two clean sheets. The Keeper and the Defenders should take great credit for this achievement because this was done against two of the stronger teams!
What lies in store is unknown but the early signs are promising and the two Steve’s as managers have good reason to be proud of the progress so far. |
