11th March 2007 - Ladybridge Eagles v Gregson Lane - Result home win Lge 3 v 2.......
1st Half
Ladybridge did not play their best football in the opening 35 minutes, if not for solid defending and excellent mifield play by James, things could have been worse....we even avoided two good penalty claims that I would have given, although we did have one of our own turned down....
Gregson Lane were strong in play and in tackles, they won and dominated the midfield battle and created several chances but as usual Rob w was good in goal......
An early goal from michael had initially put a different view on the potential hardnest of the game it turned out to be, Gregson Lane got level, and Rob has said he should have done better, but hnear the end of the 1st half the tide was turning, James got his rewards for his hard work, with a good worked goal......at lat the ball was played in the channels, out wide and support play got the
rewards.......2 v 1............
2nd Half
After a stern but open half time team talk, the boys came out fired up and this resulted in early pressure and Oliver B's goal poaching qualities did not let him down..........3 v 1..............after this and for about 20 mins we dominated the game, creating several cahnces but we just didn't seem to be able to get what could be a vital 4th goal......
Gregon Lane trtue to their spirit and capabilities came back at us, and as we got caught a shot from out wide, some how Rob palmed in, never mind, these things happen and Rob got on with his job......
Gregson Lane were now at us looking for the equaliser and as in the first hal they have a good penalty shout turned away but seconds later... a rash tackle and penalty, with only 4 mins to go.....cometh the hour cometh the man....Rob W saved and made up for his earlier errors....the boys rallied and defended doggedly to get the result..........phew final whistle and what a game..................
Gregson Lane are a credit to the league, they have strengthened from last year and no wonder they have beat some of the top 3 teams..............we still have to go to their place and what a game it will be again.......well done boys......7 games to go and a chance of a trophy............we will see................
******Cadley FC 2 - Ladybridge Eagles 1*****18th March 2007
Top of table clash, that was end to end, playing against the wind, the boys stood strong and held their own, although the ball was again for 3rd game running, coming onto the defence to many times, midfield needed to win the first ball if not, defiantly the second, we created chances but just could not get ball in the net. Just on the stroke of half time (34mins), Cadley got a break, ball over the top and we got caught, even though we were playing a 1-4-5-1 system. Good finish but not what we deserved. -----Half Time 1-0 down.
2nd half and we had the wind, but again midfield not winning the first or second ball. With this in mind a change in tactics and more attacking options - 1 - 3 - 5 - 2. Hopefully this would work, but with a change in system, Cadley again caught us cold with ball over the top. 48 mins 2-0 down. The boys were stung, but heads did not go down, and 10mins later our first real pass and move play saw a great goal, worked from a throwing on the right from Connor, to James, who played to Oliver B, he laid it off to Jordan H, who played a perfect pass to Michael to smash into the net - GAME ON!! For the remainder of the match it was all Ladybridge but that elusive goal just would not come, we had several set pieces but could not capatilise. Final whistle result 2-1, Cadley......Overall I would say that we were unlucky and the old comment 'On another day', we could have won it. Well done to Cadley and if they go on to win the league, they are deserved champions.
Hopefully we can play well in our last 6 fixtures and we still have a chance of runners up.......Well Done boys I'm proud of you all..........
