*******Bromley Cross Wizards v Ladybridge City Blues*******
So the new Wembley Stadium is finshed is it? No invite I noticed for the most consistent team in the country at the moment at any level - charming! I can feel one of my letters coming on.The FA's loss as they are unlikely to see the passion desire and commitment we see week in week out.
Les Bleus travelled to Bromley Cross en masse. A full squad of players and a bevy of MAGS who I have to say are quickly realising this is better than the catwalks of Paris,Milan or New York (or shopping at Whitakers!)
Head coach tried a different formation at the back to start the game. Would the back line concede a goal after holding firm for the last three games or would his tinkering with the rock solid partnership of Lewis and Dan come back to haunt him? Only time would tell.
In the first couple of minutes Bromley Cross broke free of the midfield and were away on goal. The young forward cracked a shot on target and goalbound.Alex was equal to it with a cat like dive to his left getting down well for such a big lad. Seconds later BX were on the attack again, Elliot tracked back making the forward nudge the ball into Alex's path who then cleared the danger.Ladybridge had a game on their hands today and found themselves under the cosh again when the industrious centre forward was in a brilliant position to put his side one up. For the third time in five minutes the keeper held firm clearing his lines.
After riding the storm the City Blues started to play their normal game. It wasn't long before the dependable midfield and forward line linked up.Ben H played the ball out of defence finding Elliot deep in the BX half. Els looked up seeing Ben L ghost into space and found him with a razor like pass.Like Ryan Giggs in that position Ben made no mistake with a cleanly hit passing shot. The goal was one of sheer class appreciated by both sets of spectators. It seemed to settle the nerves of players and travelling supporters alike. Some say it is likely to be the goal of the season!
The goal gave the team the confidence to play after weathering the early storm. Elliot went on a run down the left, with just the keeper to beat he cheekily chipped him to put Ladybridge two up. BX continued to press and but for some composed play by our man Dan sweeping up at the back they would have been right back in it.
I keep mentioning passing because this has become the byword of our game even at this level. Our playmaker Saul set Kieran off on a determined run through the middle, his final shot going just wide. The BX keeper made several very good stops to keep the score down and stop Les Bleus ending the game as a contest before half time.
Half time 0-2
Ladybridge ensured they started the second half better than the first.Charlie and Saul did the dirty work in the middle to snuff out any fluency they may have created. They may be the smallest in the team but neither player should be taken lightly - underestimate them at your peril. After disrupting play in the middle Saul slipped a short pass to Ben H who then ran half the length of the pitch showing just how a one on one should be executed putting his shot neatly into the back of the net.
Once again KK found himself in space on the left and went on an adventurous run.If ever I needed a battering ram I'd know who to call. With the ball at his feet defenders try as they might seem unable to stop him. On this occasion his shot hit the side netting.Charlie and Ben L linked up well when Charlie slipped a ball through to Ben who went on a superb run with close ball control the final effort picked up by the keeper.
A weak clearance by the BX keeper was collected by Saul who set up Ben H to collect his second of the game the quick thinking by both players certainly caught BX napping.
BX had a chance mid way through the second half when a shot at the near post was parried away by Alex. BX continued to press sensing their chance to breach the Ladybridge defence. Both Lewis and Daniel were hell bent on preserving their defensive record. You could actually see the thinking bubble above their heads saying, "Not on my watch Captain." Eventually they will concede a goal but both boys were making sure today was not the day. Dan left the pitch to a standing ovation such was his workrate today.Ben H completed his hat trick towards the end of the game with yet another spectacular long range effort to seal it.
Paul Robinson's goal last week seemed to inspire Alex to grabbing a bit of glory of his own.Our number two keeper KK deputised between the posts to give Alex a run out.He was certainly vocal enough I'll give him that. His chance came when he was put through the middle he held off a BX defender but could not get enough accuracy behind the shot.
Final score 0-5
There were two MOTM today. The first went to KK for a solid performance and great passing to create opportunities. The second went to Alex for his fourth consecutive clean sheet and efforts as a makeshift striker.Well done Kieran and Alex and well done to the rest of the boys for some entertaining football.
This was the boys sixth consecutive win and they are going from strength to strength. Various superlatives have been given to teams of the past and present such as :- The Busby Babes, Fergie's Fledglings.Well my name for this squad has to be Gashy's Greats after this impressive run.
